It's Starting to Make Sense

When I first began to crochet these beanie patterns it was hard for me to figure out how to make my hats wider. I could comprehend the idea of making them longer but for some reason I couldn't figure out the width of the pattern. The more I practiced the more  I started to see that if you add a couple of increased rounds that helps in making the beanie wider and easier to fit larger sized heads or heads with more hair like me.

Now that it's started to make sense to me I've began to make hats for adults and older children. Where as before the pattern would be intended for an adult but it would always end up as a finished item for a child. I also figured out through trial and error that a pattern is only a foundation for your creation. You can make any adjustments as need be when making something of your own.

I'm learning so much and enjoying this craft in the process. I'm looking forward to so many more things to come and I hope you are too.

I Did That!

For the Christmas holiday I decided to provide all the children in my family with crochet hats to match the coats they had gotten as gifts. My most admired gift was a Cuffed Cutie hat I provided for the older girls. I was anxious to start the pattern because the hat looked so cute in the picture. I kept trying and starting over until finally I got it beautiful.

I think this hat is so pretty and all the girls in the family loved all their handmade presents. I plan to do this again for them next year.

Old to you...New to me

Recently I began to crochet without ever having done it before. I was sitting at home and one day it all hit me like a ton of bricks. I was thinking what can I learn to do while I'm out of work besides for baking. I was so set on baking and catering only. I would spend days on Facebook trying to promote my page and build clientele.Don't get me wrong I still love to bake because there's nothing more fulfilling than providing food that everyone loves.

I started out watching my aunt crochet as a kid. I would watch her sit there hours on end and create lovely items. She said that it made her relax when she was stressed. Years later I've begun a hobby/skill that she knew so much about. I love it and I'm so happy that it's something I enjoy.

Now all I know how to crochet are hats and some small accessories. I really would like to get into clothing but only for babies. It seems that baby clothing wouldn't take as long and seem to be a little more special. But that's my opinion now. The more I get into crochet I believe that I'm going to find pleasure in one form or another.

Never did I think I would find so much joy in anything other than baking. Now I have something to do while I'm waiting on my next cake order to come in.
